When expecting, expect the unexpected: Frist Trimester
I can honestly say no matter what people told me about pregnancy, I still didn't feel prepared. Sure I was told of morning sickness, the undesirable acne, the aches and pains of your body as it begins to grow and expand. It's probably because I am stubborn, and highly in denial of what my own experience would be. I never thought I needed to worry about any of that. I was lucky I rarely had experienced acne growing up, sure I had the occasional breakout once I reached my 20s, mostly due to hormonal changes and dietary issues. Really, I was lucky, even if I had some stomach issues, but being pregnant changes EVERYTHING!
Morning Sickness
“I told Jay that it felt like the time we took a van up the mountain to Pai Thailand. It was such a wild ride we both almost lost our nuggets, and Jay never gets car sick."
I was delusional to think I would be the person who wouldn't get morning sickness. Sure, my little sister didn't really have morning sickness. She also had two boys so maybe it could be that we are having a girl. Who knows!? I've read so many articles on #morningsickness and it seems like no one really knows or can determine who gets morning sickness. The articles say it is cultural and hereditary, but there is no real scientific data. So here I was pregnant and nauseous from what seemed like the very first day. I thought the #nausea was enough but once I hit the 7th week, Oh, Mama, I could not have felt more ill. I told Jay that it felt like the time we took a van up the mountain to Pai Thailand. It was such a wild ride we both almost lost our nuggets, and Jay never gets car sick.
After a few days of feeling quite ill, Jay went and bought some #seabands. These little doodads were a lifesaver. Now they were not by any means a cure-all but they helped curb my nausea enough that I was able to function. Now Mamas, I by no stretch of the imagination am a professional at anything pregnancy, after all this will be our first child. I can however tell you what has been working for me in the first trimester or so. Crackers, sparkling water, mint tea, smoothies, sea bands, and the occasional Angie's kettle corn are what keeps me sane and functioning.
Acne
As I mentioned earlier, I have honestly been super lucky not to have dealt with acne most of my life. However, becoming pregnant now feels like a meteor shower made direct contact with my face, not to mention my already #sensitiveface has become even more sensitive to even natural face grooming products. I found actually not washing my face as often and reducing lotions and serums helped my upset face.
Bathroom Wonders
“...I still had days where my stomach bloated out and made me feel like I was further along than I was.”
Now I had already digestive issues, sensitivities, and allergies. The truth is the first few weeks when all my blood was flowing down to baby, my digestion seemed to have fixed itself. Only it wasn't actually fixed, but in my first trimester, I was more normal than I had ever known. Sure I still had days where my stomach bloated out and made me feel like I was further along than I was. On those days I found Benefiber helped. My G.I. suggested taking Miralax daily, however, I was so fearful to take anything immediately especially the first trimester that I bought but never touched the stuff.
As we Grow
As we move into our second trimester, a few things I am glad I didn't have to live without were naps, crackers, and sparkling water. Sipping a smoothie throughout the day surely helped keep my morning sickness down while I was at work, but when I was hope crackers and naps were my best friend!
